Grid and Customizable Buffs - Part 1

As healers, it's pretty vital for all of us to have a good idea of the status of the raid as a whole, as well as our individual targets. In order to help with that, you should all now know how to add important raid debuffs to your Grid (like Stone Grip, Nature's Fury, Sara's Blessing and such, things that aren't dispellable like your run of the mill curses, diseases, poisons and magic effects). If you don't, please do check out:

If you do know how to add the debuffs, it's time to add buffs, which can be just as important as the debuffs when it comes to knowing the status of your targets or fellow raid members. Part 1 (this part) will focus on configuring your Grid to display short-term buffs on various raid members, specifically tank-related cooldowns. Part 2 will focus on configuring your Grid to display who has or doesn't have various raid buffs that you may be responsible for buffing.

Since I'm a paladin and, therefore, primarily a tank healer, I've configured my Grid to show me a variety of "cooldown" buffs that other classes (and my own) can cast to reduce damage on the tank. The primary ones are Hand of Sacrifice (paladins), Guardian Spirit (holy priests) and Pain Suppression (disc priests), all of which generally come from healers. These all have a spot on my Grid and show up as different coloured dots. On the top part of the person's Grid frame is a purple dot for Hand of Sac. On the bottom is a white dot for Pain Suppression. On the left side is a blue dot for Guardian Spirit.

Wait, wait, hold the phone. Did I say top, bottom and left side? Yes, I did. With GridSideIndicators, you can add dots to the middle of each side of your individual grid frames, so one on the top, one on the bottom and one on each side, in addition to the four corners.

So I've got Hand of Sacrifice, Pain Suppression and Guardian Spirit listed as little dots on my Grid. Here's a look at Hand of Sac and Pain Suppression:

The other week, I added a warrior's Shield Wall ability to my Grid so I'm aware of when a warrior's hit that cooldown.

But in my guild, there are more than just warrior tanks. We also have a full-time protection paladin, a part-time death knight tank... No druid tanks, but it's clear that if I want to see if a tank has used his or her cooldown, I need to add more than just shield wall to my Grid.

Since we have a full-time protection paladin, it would make sense to put Divine Protection on my Grid, right? Right.

So what I'm going to do is go into my Grid options and select Status, then Auras, then Add new Buff. Then I just type the name of the buff I'd like to see on my Grid. In this case, I want to see Divine Protection, so that's what I've typed. Then hit Enter. I should now see Divine Protection in the Buffs list.

I always want to make sure it has a check mark next to Enable!

Next, I go back to my Grid options and select Frame, Center Icon and put a check mark next to Buff: Divine Protection.

To test it out, since I'm a paladin, I popped Divine Protection and hey, look, there it is on my Grid. Worked like a charm!

Don't forget to check out Part 2 for details on how to keep track of something like Power Word: Fortitude, Divine Spirit or another raid-wide buff.

Madrana :)
